Description of problem:
After installing FC4 on a system with an Intel AC'97 sound card, sound didn't work.  We tried fiddling with alsamixer, but nothing was muted, all levels were normal.  Sound worked fine under Ubuntu, so we compared modules between Ubuntu and FC4.

Unloading the snd_intel8x0m module, then unloading and reloading the snd_intel8x0 module got sound working again.  We blacklisted the snd_intel8x0m module, and that fixed the problem.

I can confirm this with and hpze4900 with snd_intel8x0m module loaded. 
Blacklisting the module in the /etc/hotplug/blacklist file resolves the problem.

Please retest your problem with todays 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4 update.

If your problem involved being unable to boot, or some hardware not being
detected correctly, please make sure your /etc/modprobe.conf is correct *BEFORE*
installing any kernel updates.
If in doubt, you can recreate this file using..

mv /etc/sysconfig/hwconf /etc/sysconfig/hwconf.bak
mv /etc/modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.conf.bak
kudzu

If someone else can test the new update, that would be good -- I don't have time
right now to break my system again and fiddle with it.  :)
