Whenever my message logs rotate, ipchains stops logging PACKET alert 
messages. I cannot see this in Bugzilla but did find the symptom mentioned 
in deja.com postings. 

Other posters implied a restart of syslogd would resolve but when I -
SIGHUP to restart, logging still doesn't occur.

Flush and reload of chains has no effect either.

Only solution to date appears to be a re-boot, all then reverts to normal.

As far as I can tell ipchains is still doing what it should in terms of 
managing access but there is no longer any visibility of foreign scans.

Other log messages appear normally.

Make sure you're running the errata syslogd.
