Description Rick 2018-08-28 16:48:27 UTC
Description of problem:

Current version lacks full support for zstd compression... even though it's built into the kernel.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

btrfs-progs-4.11.1-3.fc27.rpm

How reproducible:

Innate

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Observe fc27 version
2. Observe rawhide version
3. compare

Actual results:

Version lacks full zstd capability that was introduced in v4.14

Expected results:

Full capabilty

Additional info:

It'd be nice to use features that have been available for over a year. I need to benchmark different filesystems and having current support programs, etc., will be crucial to generate meaningful results.

In the short term, you can always grab the latest SRPM from rawhide, i.e. https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/btrfs-progs/4.17.1/1.fc29/src/ and rpmbuild --rebuild it.

In the mid term, I can push newer btrfs-progs to f27

In the long term, it'd be best if someone more invested in btrfs would like to maintain this package ;)
