Description Kim Borup 2018-08-29 10:17:15 UTC
Description of problem:

IHAC where they are using chronyd, which is deafult in RHEL 7 and lots of our other products (satellite etc), and they uninstall NTP using puppet / ansible. However gluster has a requirement for ntp, which makes it impossible to uninstall ntp, and makes alot of puppet jobs fail on their growing environment.

This is a request to change the default timedeamon to be chronyd like all the other products instead of ntp. to make it all align.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
3.*

How reproducible:
All the time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install chronyd
2. Try to uninstall ntp
3.

Actual results:
Ntp is a requirement for gluster.

Expected results:
ntp being removed

Could you point me to the exact error what the system throws up when you try to remove ntp package?

Comment 6 Atin Mukherjee 2018-10-04 07:17:38 UTC
Milind - can you please cross check why removing ntp reoves the entire redhat-storage-server package?

Comment 7 Milind Changire 2018-10-05 07:49:40 UTC
As far as I know, a yum remove also removes the packages dependent on the package being removed.

From the yum man page ...

remove or erase
Are used to remove the specified packages from the system as well as removing any packages which depend on the package being removed.

Keeping in mind the current approved content of 3.4.3 comprising of high-profile customer issues, and sev1 and sev2 issues, QE would like this bug to be pushed out of BU3 and to be re-proposed in one of the future batch updates.
