Description Robert Locke 2018-12-08 03:47:37 UTC
Description of problem:
The commandline options that were passed to RHEL 7.x are now failing with RHEL8.0beta

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL 8.0beta (public)

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot system with the following arguments:
vmlinuz initrd=initrd=initrd.img ks=http://172.25.254.250/ks/foundation.ks repo=http://172.25.254.250/rhel8.0/x86_64/dvd ks.device=bootif gateway=172.25.254.254 dns=172.25.254.250 netmask=255.255.255.0 ip=172.25.254.17 RHT_ENROLLMENT=17
2. Failure declares that System was halted - focus as tweaks are applied to network settings indicate that is the focus.

Actual results:
System halted

Expected results:
System installs using static IP addressing specified with a kickstart file.

Please let me know if something has changed that I need to do to support "static IP" and kickstart....

Comment 2 Robert Locke 2018-12-08 03:51:10 UTC
For more information, there is a DHCP/PXE server that offers a menu of static IP assignments for installation. The above vmlinuz is showing the result of a choice from that menu.

Comment 3 Jiri Konecny 2018-12-10 08:32:33 UTC
Could you please provide us installation logs? You can find them in the /tmp/*.log.

If you are not able to get these, could you please provide us console output with journal log?

Comment 5 Robert Locke 2018-12-10 16:27:58 UTC
Argh. I had missed the deprecation....

Just to close it out:
1) Remove ks.device=bootif
2) Drop gateway=, netmask= and consolidate into ip=
ip=172.25.254.3::172.25.254.254:255.255.255.0:foundation3.ilt.example.com::none
(Hint, don't forget "none" at the end)
3) Change dns= to nameserver=

Things are working well now. Thanks for the deprecation pointer....
