If I wish to create an empty file on the desktop (for later modification), I use
the right click "Create Document / Empty File" menu item.  This appears to be
failing now and generates an error dialog (see attached png).  The dialog states:

Error Creating New Document.
Error "Not on the same file system" creating new document.

Ah, this old bug has been fixed. Should work in rawhide at the very least.
