Mass update to all FC4 bugs: An update has been released (2.6.13-1.1526_FC4) which rebases to a new upstream kernel (2.6.13.2). As there were ~3500 changes upstream between this and the previous kernel, it's possible your bug has been fixed already. Please retest with this update, and update this bug if necessary. Thanks. I have tested this bug on a 2.6.13-1.1526_FC4 kernel. It is still there. Here is the output of the syslog when switching the disk on: Oct 3 11:56:35 draco kernel: usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:56:36 draco kernel: scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Oct 3 11:56:41 draco kernel: Vendor: DCB Model: HS-HD Rev: 2.23 Oct 3 11:56:41 draco kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 Oct 3 11:56:41 draco kernel: SCSI device sda: 156301488 512-byte hdwr sectors (80026 MB) Oct 3 11:56:41 draco kernel: sda: assuming drive cache: write through Oct 3 11:56:41 draco kernel: SCSI device sda: 156301488 512-byte hdwr sectors (80026 MB) Oct 3 11:56:41 draco kernel: sda: assuming drive cache: write through Oct 3 11:56:42 draco kernel: sda:<6>usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:56:45 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:56:47 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:56:47 draco kernel: SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x70000 Oct 3 11:56:47 draco kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 0 Oct 3 11:56:47 draco kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0 Oct 3 11:56:49 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:56:54 draco last message repeated 2 times Oct 3 11:56:54 draco kernel: SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x70000 Oct 3 11:56:54 draco kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 0 Oct 3 11:56:54 draco kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0 Oct 3 11:56:56 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:56:56 draco scsi.agent[2901]: Attribute /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:03:0b.2/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/host1/target1:0:0/1:0:0:0/type does not exist Oct 3 11:56:58 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x70000 Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 0 Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0 Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: unable to read partition table Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: Attached scsi disk sda at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: Vendor: DCB Model: HS-CF Rev: 2.23 Oct 3 11:57:00 draco kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 Oct 3 11:57:02 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:57:04 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:57:05 draco kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sdb at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 1 Oct 3 11:57:05 draco scsi.agent[2930]: disk at /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:03:0b.2/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/host1/target1:0:0/1:0:0:1 Oct 3 11:57:06 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:57:06 draco kernel: SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x70000 Oct 3 11:57:06 draco kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 0 Oct 3 11:57:06 draco kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 0 Oct 3 11:57:07 draco kernel: Vendor: DCB Model: HS-MS/SD Rev: 2.23 Oct 3 11:57:07 draco kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 00 Oct 3 11:57:08 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:57:08 draco kernel: SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x70000 Oct 3 11:57:08 draco kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 8 Oct 3 11:57:08 draco kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 1 Oct 3 11:57:10 draco kernel: usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Oct 3 11:57:11 draco kernel: SCSI error : <1 0 0 0> return code = 0x70000 Oct 3 11:57:11 draco kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 16 Oct 3 11:57:11 draco kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sda, logical block 2 This bug seems to be hardware dependend. This is a mass-update to all currently open kernel bugs. A new kernel update has been released (Version: 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4) based upon a new upstream kernel release. Please retest against this new kernel, as a large number of patches go into each upstream release, possibly including changes that may address this problem. This bug has been placed in NEEDINFO_REPORTER state. Due to the large volume of inactive bugs in bugzilla, if this bug is still in this state in two weeks time, it will be closed. Should this bug still be relevant after this period, the reporter can reopen the bug at any time. Any other users on the Cc: list of this bug can request that the bug be reopened by adding a comment to the bug. If this bug is a problem preventing you from installing the release this version is filed against, please see bug 169613. Thank you. This bug persists in kernel 2.6.15-1.1831. [This comment added as part of a mass-update to all open FC4 kernel bugs] FC4 has now transitioned to the Fedora legacy project, which will continue to release security related updates for the kernel. As this bug is not security related, it is unlikely to be fixed in an update for FC4, and has been migrated to FC5. Please retest with Fedora Core 5. Thank you. A new kernel update has been released (Version: 2.6.18-1.2200.fc5) based upon a new upstream kernel release. Please retest against this new kernel, as a large number of patches go into each upstream release, possibly including changes that may address this problem. This bug has been placed in NEEDINFO state. In the last few updates, some users upgrading from FC4->FC5 have reported that installing a kernel update has left their systems unbootable. If you have been affected by this problem please check you only have one version of device-mapper & lvm2 installed. See bug 207474 for further details. If this bug is a problem preventing you from installing the release this version is filed against, please see bug 169613. If this bug has been fixed, but you are now experiencing a different problem, please file a separate bug for the new problem. Thank you. This bug persists in 2.6.18-1.2200.fc5smp. The problem persists with FC6 and kernel 2.6.20-1.2925.fc6. The bug persists with Fedora 8 and kernel-2.6.23.9-85.fc8. lspci -v output
It is possible that it is the same bug as 137183, but I do not even get the desktop disk icon. This message is a reminder that Fedora 8 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 8. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '8'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 8's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 8 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping Fedora 8 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-01-07. Fedora 8 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. |
