Description eric.pouech 2019-04-18 08:17:43 UTC
Description of problem:
Cannot user amarok

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
at startup

Steps to Reproduce:
1. launch amarok => dialog box pops up with database error
2.
3.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Additional info:
strangely enough

A) running with "amarok --debug" shows that:
can not create backend object from factory for gstreamer , phonon gstreamer : could not find plugin gstreamer for application amarok
which is strange as gstreamer is installed for qt5
which looks more like an amarok (or plasma) configuration issue than an internal error

B) trying the same test on a newly created user account (to ensure no user local issue) gives the same result.

A+

I cannot reproduce running plasma from fedora kde-spin install of f30.

Clearly, the phonon plugin isn't loading for you for some reason (though fyi amarok is still a qt4/kde4 application, so it'll use the qt4-based plugin, not the qt5 one)

How did you install fedora? (what spin or edition)
What DE are you using?

Comment 2 eric.pouech 2019-04-19 14:59:31 UTC
migration from fedora 29 to fedora 30 went (unfortunately) in two steps:
- dnf system-upgrade
which couldn't boot up after 'dnf system-upgrade reboot'(due likely from what I see in current F30 bug reports to the grub entry created by an antediluvian fedora install)
- so burnt a DVD image with Fedora 30 beta / kde spin and reinstalled everything

the qt4 & qt5 phonon backends *are* installed... I tried to switch from gstreamer to vlc backends with same results

I take it back, can reproduce the error now.

amarok-2.9.0-4.fc30 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 30. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2019-4aebf8bc56

Comment 5 Rex Dieter 2019-04-22 21:41:51 UTC
may also require runtime components from
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2019-399cb1caab

though I still sometimes get messages on startup about phonon backends, amarok still works
