This is not a USB problem specifically. Interrupts are not delivered.
So, I suppose it has something to do with ACPI and IRQ routing.

Am leaning towards a device issue.  Booting back to the previous kernel gives
the same errors.  Will do some more tests....

Sorry, false alarm.  Power cycling the drive brought it back.
