Description Petr Viktorin (pviktori) 2019-06-07 15:54:28 UTC
When built for Python 3.8.0b1, uvloop cannot be imported:

>>> import uvloop
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "/usr/lib64/python3.8/site-packages/uvloop/__init__.py", line 7, in <module>
    from .loop import Loop as __BaseLoop # NOQA
  File "uvloop/includes/stdlib.pxi", line 114, in init uvloop.loop
AttributeError: module 'sys' has no attribute 'set_coroutine_wrapper'

The function "sys.set_coroutine_wrapper", which was added provisionally to Python 3.5, and deprecated in Python 3.7, is removed in Python 3.8.

See upstream issue: https://github.com/MagicStack/uvloop/issues/251

This makes "python-sanic" (which imports uvloop during tests) fail to build for Python 3.8.

For its build logs, see:
https://copr-be.cloud.fedoraproject.org/results/@python/python3.8/fedora-rawhide-x86_64/00928223-python-sanic/

Testing and mass rebuild of packages is happening in copr. You can follow these instructions to test locally in mock if your package builds with Python 3.8:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.8/

Let us know here if you have any questions.

This makes "python-ZEO" (which imports uvloop during tests) fail to build for Python 3.8.
