Description Ravindra Patil 2019-07-16 15:16:40 UTC
Description of problem:
In /etc/services, port 5666 shows the following confusing line:
###UNAUTHORIZED USE: Port 5666 used by SAIC NRPE############

The latest port assignment from IANA shows that port number 5666 is registered by Nagios for use;

https://www.iana.org/assignments/service-names-port-numbers/service-names-port-numbers.xhtml?search=5666

In other words, the line(s) should be something like in /etc/services :
nrpe 5666/tcp # Nagios Remote Plugin Executor
nrpe 5666/udp # Reserved for Nagios Remote Plugin Executor

In Summary, the /etc/services file should reflect all of the current IANA port assignments. Can we get this fixed upstream and propagated to RHEL 7.x and 8.x?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
setup-2.12.2-1.el8.noarch.rpm

How reproducible:
- By default no entry for nrpe port 5666 in /etc/services

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Check entry in /etc/services for port 5666
2.
3.

Actual results:
###UNAUTHORIZED USE: Port 5666 used by SAIC NRPE############

Expected results:
nrpe 5666/tcp # Nagios Remote Plugin Executor
nrpe 5666/udp # Reserved for Nagios Remote Plugin Executor

Additional info:
Same has been the situation in RHEL7 and RHEL8.
