A vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel’s CX24116 tv-card driver, where an out of bounds read occurs when checking userspace params in drivers/media/dvb-frontends/cx24116.c. An attacker could use this flaw to leak kernel private information to userspace.

Created kernel tracking bugs for this issue: Affects: fedora-all [bug 1735656] This was fixed in stable kernel 4.1.4 and has never impacted any currently supported Fedora release. Statement: This flaw requires a Conexant CX24116 series TV-media card to be in the system for this driver to load. This flaw is when an attacker attempts to use the card to communicate with a satellite tv control subsystem ( via Digital Satellite Equipment Control command) by issuing a specially crafted ioctl to the device. This flaw is rated as moderate because this attack vector could allow a local attacker to leak kernel-internal information to userspace. Note to any customers following along: I had originally misundertood this flaw, I apologise for any confusion. The impact and description has been modified to reflect my new understanding of this issue. This issue has been addressed in the following products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Via RHSA-2020:1016 https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2020:1016 This issue has been addressed in the following products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Via RHSA-2020:1070 https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2020:1070 This bug is now closed. Further updates for individual products will be reflected on the CVE page(s): https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/cve-2015-9289 |
