Description Don Pellegrino 2019-08-16 14:59:55 UTC
RHEL 7 distributes GNU Emacs 24.3.1. This should be upgraded to track upstream more closely.

For the use case of Python development in Emacs, most of the Emacs packages that support auto-completion for Python require Emacs 24.4 or later. For a list of the packages see https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/PythonProgrammingInEmacs#toc3. GNU Emacs has moved up to 26.2 (https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/). I am unaware of backward compatibility issues that would necessitate holding the emacs package back on 24.3.1.

RHEL-7 is currently in Maintenance Support 1. Please, see https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata.
