Description Japheth Cleaver 2019-10-03 21:58:15 UTC
Description of problem:
With traditional SunRPC removed from glibc in Fedora 28 and beyond, it may be helpful for some users to be able to standardize on libtirpc-usage across multiple ecosystem releases. This library is present in RHEL7 but does not appear to be available in the UBI7 package set. Adding this in would help increase UBI's usability.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
libtirpc-0.2.4-0.16.el7

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In a ubi7 container: yum install libtirpc

Japeth,

Thank you for reaching out with this request. We appreciate your interest in Red Hat Universal Base Image. Today, UBI is really targeted towards cloud native, application developers working with languages like Java, Node.js, Golang, .Net, Perl, Python, Ruby, and PHP [1]. Currently, this request does not fall within the currently approved use cases for inclusion in UBI. The scope of UBI will likely grow and we will keep this use case in mind.

Hi,

In light of today's CentOS announcement, and specifically https://centos.org/distro-faq/#q11-my-ci-provider-uses-containers-i-currently-use-centos-linux-images-to-test-for-rhel-compatibility-i-cannot-use-ubi-because-it-does-not-include-the-packages-i-need-what-will-be-my-options-in-the-future , would it be possible for this RFE to be revisited for possible libtirpc inclusion? This is a pretty low level library and it would aid with transitions to UBI for some cases.
