Also ipmctl-monitor has similar obsolete: ixpdimm-monitor < 01.00.00.3000 Same problem there, epel7 package can't obsolete rhel7 core package. libipmctl-0:01.00.00.3469-2.el7.x86_64 [cmd line] \_ ixpdimm_sw-0:01.00.00.2111-1.el7.x86_64 [libipmctl] \_ libixpdimm-cim-0:01.00.00.2111-1.el7.x86_64 [libipmctl] \_ libixpdimm-core-0:01.00.00.2111-1.el7.x86_64 [libipmctl] libipmctl-devel-0:01.00.00.3469-2.el7.x86_64 [cmd line] \_ ixpdimm_sw-devel-0:01.00.00.2111-1.el7.x86_64 [libipmctl-devel] More same issue. ixpdimm is deprecated and no longer supported or maintained with ipmctl as a replacement. It was pre-release software for enabling a tech preview and probably should never have gone to rhel core packages. I'm almost certain the ixpdimm package is broken and will be incompatible with current platform/hardware. Is there any way ixpdimm can be removed from rhel7 core? ipmctl won't be submitted to core packages which is why I've added it to epel. This issue is still not resolved. Possibly ways to resolve the issue: Confirmation from redhat that package is removed from rhel and current packaging is ok. Change from Obsoletes: to Conflicts: which is allowed. The issue was and still is that no epel package can replace system package. But Conflict is allowed. We don't remove packages from RHEL, we only mark them deprecated. We will not be shipping ipmctl. Sorry - you misunderstood that - I requested change to ipmctl to Conflict: rhel packages instead of Obsoleting them. So this bug is about epel7 package replacing package provided by rhel I apologize, I didn't notice that this was an EPEL bug.
