As long as python2-pillow is still available, I'm not bothered about what dependencies lie underneath. The information I had was from Bug#1737930, which may be outdated. So far I've only removed python2 support from packages which have been flagged as leafs and for which a ticket has been filed them to be removed. So as long as there are users of python2-pillow, I'll keep it around.
