Hi Kernel team, I should clarify that the tape device is detected and the /dev entries are created when booting the original FC4 kernel: kernel-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 It is only since I upgraded with "yum update" to: kernel-2.6.14-1.1656_FC4 that Linux fails to detect the tape device so I guess something got broken between these two kernel versions. I just re-tested this evening booting up kernel-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 twice and both times the tape drive was detected. If you would like me to test other kernel versions to try an pinpoint the exact release where the problem first manifests itself please let me know. pcmcia-cs Jan 15 19:31:59 Installed: sg3_utils.i386 1.06-5 can you try the 2.6.15 based kernel from the updates-testing repository please ? Installed and booted kernel-2.6.15-1.1824_FC4. Saw many scsi errors for megaraid. The tape device seemed to be detected okay but then there was a dump on the console which ended with "unknown_boot_option 0x0/0x1b6" and then "continuing in nn seconds" followed by a countdown. The kernel failed to boot. The problem seemed to be with megaraid and the scsi disks but the messages flew by so quickly that it was difficult to read other than there seemed to be scsi errors after "Creating root device" was displayed. I rebooted back into kernel-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 and everything seemed to come up ok (hopefully no corruption of the disks). the full info from that dump is needed to diagnose this problem further. Even if you can manage to get a digital camera picture of it it'll be useful (Booting with 'vga=791' [or vga=1 if your monitor cant do 791] will also allow more lines of text on the screen, which will help further). Hi Dave I have emailed the digital camera images to your redhat email address. Thanks John Hi Dave, Did you receive the digital images that I sent to you? Do you need any further info? Have there been any further developments? If you would like me to test any other kernel version please let me know. Cheers John This is a mass-update to all currently open kernel bugs. A new kernel update has been released (Version: 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4) based upon a new upstream kernel release. Please retest against this new kernel, as a large number of patches go into each upstream release, possibly including changes that may address this problem. This bug has been placed in NEEDINFO_REPORTER state. Due to the large volume of inactive bugs in bugzilla, if this bug is still in this state in two weeks time, it will be closed. Should this bug still be relevant after this period, the reporter can reopen the bug at any time. Any other users on the Cc: list of this bug can request that the bug be reopened by adding a comment to the bug. If this bug is a problem preventing you from installing the release this version is filed against, please see bug 169613. Thank you. Donwloaded 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4 kernel and it seems to have done the trick! |
