Description Andrew 2020-01-18 12:36:05 UTC
Kernel 5.4 obtained own exfat driver, but it's not enabled currently:

# grep EXFAT /boot/config-5.4.8-200.fc31.x86_64
# CONFIG_EXFAT_FS is not set

It should be good alternative to exfat-fuse for this popular FS.

Comment 1 Andrew 2020-02-03 11:24:08 UTC
Still absent for 5.4.15-200.fc31:

#  grep EXFAT /boot/config-5.4.15-200.fc31.x86_64
# CONFIG_EXFAT_FS is not set

Comment 2 Justin M. Forbes 2020-03-09 15:44:03 UTC
The exfat driver will be enabled when it is promoted from staging.

Comment 3 Andrew 2020-03-12 14:01:38 UTC
Latest news tell that current driver will be removed: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Staging-exFAT-Nuking-5.7

Comment 4 Steve 2020-05-29 05:09:41 UTC
EXFAT is enabled here:

$ grep CONFIG_EXFAT lib/modules/5.7.0-0.rc7.1.fc33.x86_64/config  # extracted from kernel-core-5.7.0-0.rc7.1.fc33.x86_64.rpm
CONFIG_EXFAT_FS=m
CONFIG_EXFAT_DEFAULT_IOCHARSET="utf8"

kernel-5.7.0-0.rc7.1.fc33

This message is a reminder that Fedora 31 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 31 on 2020-11-24.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '31'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 31 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

I see exfat module in stock Fedora 33 kernel, so closing the ticket:

/lib/modules/5.8.16-300.fc33.x86_64/kernel/fs/exfat/exfat.ko.xz
