Description James Hunt 2006-02-01 08:28:12 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050922 Fedora/1.0.7-1.1.fc4 Firefox/1.0.7

Description of problem:
yum cannot install source rpm (.src.rpm) files, for example to install kernel source code.

Official method (according to FC4 release notes) is to use up2date:

  up2date --get-source kernel

However, up2date doesn't work "out-of-the-box" on FC4, and it would be great if yum could handle this functionality itself.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
yum-2.4.1-1.fc4

How reproducible:
Didn't try

Thank you for the report. Yum-utils which is in Fedora Extras has yumdownloader
which provides the functionality to download source rpms. yum-builddep lets you
gather build dependencies. Wouldnt be necessary to duplicate all those
functionality in yum itself. Closing this.
