Screenshot of Thunar browsing a samba network share.

Description of problem:
Network share is showing files as folders.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):Fedora 31
Package samba-2:4.11.6-0.fc31.x86_64

How reproducible:
Navigate to a network share e.g. smb://router/steve/ and files will be
displayed as folders of zero bytes and be inaccessible.
This is repeatable on two different machines both fully updated.
Since the Tomato firmware on my router only supports smb ver 1.0 I have the
line "client min protocol = NT1" in my /etc/samba/smb.conf file. Not sure
if that could be an issue with the recent samba update.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Navigate to a network share with Thunar (maybe another file manager too, IDK)
2.
3.

Actual results:
Files will be displayed as Folders of zero bytes and be inaccessible with any application.

Expected results:
Files displayed as files according to type and size and be editable as usual.

Additional info:
The Tomato firmware on my router only supports smb ver 1.0 so I have the
line "client min protocol = NT1" in my /etc/samba/smb.conf file.
Not sure if that could be an issue with the recent samba update.

This is my first Fedora bug report so if I'm off-base, I apologize in advance.
Thanks,
Mark

For now closing from my end.

If you found what is wrong, or how to fix this, can you please add some info here as more people are affected by this (as per Bug 1803971 and Bug 1801442)? Thanks!

No, I tried everything I could think of.
I searched the internet for as long as I could stand and found nothing so I thought it was just me and gave up.
I installed opensuse gecko tumbleweed.
I still have the two broken XFCE Fedora 31 installations but they're of limited use at this point.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

FWIW, if anyone's keeping score SUSE Tumbleweed Gecko broke the SMB shares in the exact same way that Fedora has.
I'm beginning to think it's a .RPM distro conspiracy against sharing files & folders via a Microsoft network protocol.
Ubuntu isn't broken.........yet.
Can't understand why this problem hasn't set off alarm bells somewhere but I get crickets when I search the internet for this problem.

Use the FTP protocol in thunar instead of SMB then all the files and folders are accessible as usual.
