Several clarifications: > Expected results: > dosbox-0.74.3-5.el8 - or better ;-) There was no DOSBox releases newer than 0.74.3, and I wouldn't expect one anytime soon. > Depends On: 1798266 (Please build SDL_net for EPEL 8) > 1798268 (Please build SDL_sound for EPEL 8) Both these packages were in EPEL 7 and got removed, I guess due to almost no other packages besides dosbox depending on them. In Fedora there are few really old games using these and that's it. In the wild there are many more old games using SDL 1.2 (some non-packaged open-source ones (e.g. OpenXcom), but mostly older proprietary Linux games). Anyways - both of these dependencies are optional for building dosbox, although SDL_sound provides crucial functionality (mounting of .cue files, CD-DA emulation). > Please let me know if you are not interested in maintaining the package on EPEL 8 branch. I'm only added in CC here, and this comment was targetted at current dosbox package maintainer, but I'll chime in anyway :) I'm not interested in packaging upstream dosbox, but I am the maintainer of dosbox-staging project: https://github.com/dreamer/dosbox-staging and am VERY interested in packaging it for Fedora and EPEL. dosbox-staging uses SDL2 instead of SDL1.2 and includes a considerable number of other improvements. We haven't had a formal release yet - currently sitting at 0.75.0 pre-release, with several hundred commits on top of latest upstream SVN. Unfortunately our upstream (DOSBox) is extremely slow at accepting any patches. I see that SDL2 is somehow missing from EPEL 8, and I think it is a crucial dependency (there's plenty of software using these libraries; importantly it is quite essential for game developers targetting Linux). @Robert Scheck If you're interested in trying it out, I can prepare rpm packages in COPR, but preparing EPEL 8 rpms will be a problem due to lack of SDL2. @François Would you be interested in reviewing my dosbox-staging COPR packages for inclusion in Fedora and helping in putting it in EPEL 8? @Robert my reply is going to be the same as Hans, namely that I do not have enough time to properly maintain EPEL branches anymore, which is unfortunate as dosbox got some CVEs last year. With that said, if the dependencies are taken care of, I would make you co-admin of the dosbox package so that you can build it for EPEL8. The fact that dosbox still depends on SDL 1.2 does not help, so see below. @Patryk I've reviewed the thread at VOGONS and I have to say including dosbox-staging in Fedora would be useful especially since you seem to follow upstream closely e.g. it's not a hard fork. I would suggest opening a formal review bugzilla ticket. I cannot commit to reviewing anything now though, but let's see if anyone (Robert?) beats me to it. I would rather see dosbox-staging land in EPEL8 with its dependencies than the SDL1-based dosbox package. This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 32 development cycle. Changing version to 32. *** Bug 1809017 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Closing due to inactivity. |
