I don't see a way how this can be fixed inside of OpenSSH. You could shoot yourself into your leg even with older openssh using ProxyCommand (as in the 8 years old ubuntu bug, which is now closed).

For now marking as Low priority and CondNack as we do not have a patch or any sensible idea how we can "fix" it. If you have some proposal, it would be welcomed.

OK, I just noticed that there is a patch upstream so it is feasible to include it in next minor update of RHEL8, I believe.
