Description Miro Hrončok 2020-03-26 23:56:10 UTC
python-zope-i18nmessageid fails to build with setuptools 46+:

+ /usr/bin/python3 setup.py build '--executable=/usr/bin/python3 -s'
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/builddir/build/BUILD/zope.i18nmessageid-4.0.3/setup.py", line 25, in <module>
from setuptools import setup, find_packages, Extension, Feature
ImportError: cannot import name 'Feature' from 'setuptools' (/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/setuptools/__init__.py)

See https://github.com/pypa/setuptools/issues/65#issuecomment-576010662

This blocks the Python 3.9 rebuild.

For the build logs with Python 3.9, see:
https://copr-be.cloud.fedoraproject.org/results/@python/python3.9/fedora-rawhide-x86_64/01321113-python-zope-i18nmessageid/

For all our attempts to build python-zope-i18nmessageid with Python 3.9, see:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.9/package/python-zope-i18nmessageid/

Testing and mass rebuild of packages is happening in copr. You can follow these instructions to test locally in mock if your package builds with Python 3.9:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.9/

Let us know here if you have any questions.

Python 3.9 will be included in Fedora 33. To make that update smoother, we're building Fedora packages with early pre-releases of Python 3.9.
A build failure prevents us from testing all dependent packages (transitive [Build]Requires), so if this package is required a lot, it's important for us to get it fixed soon.
We'd appreciate help from the people who know this package best, but if you don't want to work on this now, let us know so we can try to work around it on our side.

Could you please respond?

Comment 2 Miro Hrončok 2020-05-09 11:10:16 UTC
This is the second reminder defined in point 4 of https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/

Please, respond.

Comment 4 Miro Hrončok 2020-05-15 15:14:43 UTC
The package was orphaned. I'll take care of the fix.
