Description
Upstream Release Monitoring
2020-04-12 12:40:17 UTC
Marcel, this could solve bz1788506, but also has a potential of breaking a lot of packages. I suggest we update to Cython 3 in the Python 3.9 Copr and see what breaks? Sure, on it. Latest upstream release: 3.0a2 Current version/release in rawhide: 0.29.16-1.fc33 URL: http://www.cython.org Please consult the package updates policy before you issue an update to a stable branch: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/ More information about the service that created this bug can be found at: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upstream_release_monitoring Please keep in mind that with any upstream change, there may also be packaging changes that need to be made. Specifically, please remember that it is your responsibility to review the new version to ensure that the licensing is still correct and that no non-free or legally problematic items have been added upstream. Based on the information from anitya: https://release-monitoring.org/project/12679/ We'll most likely not update to Cython 3 before at least beta or a release candidate. Based on the information from Anitya: https://release-monitoring.org/project/12679/ To change the monitoring settings for the project, please visit: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/Cython It's been a couple of years since some build tests were done with the v3 branch, and while even the latest v3 is listed as alpha I wonder if we might consider moving to it as it has been in alpha for so long? I have a package with an upgrade path which needs functionality in v3 but not in the current "stable" release so I have some interest in getting this upgraded if possible. I looked around some, but I didn't immediately uncover any discussion on roadmap to beta/release for v3, so I'm not sure what upstream's timeframe is for that transition. Maybe we can test Fedora packages with cython 3.x and make a decision based on the result. Worst case scenario we package both versions to Fedora. It would be an endeavor for next year, not this December though.
