The following fixes to improve mutters behavior under heavy background IO load were included in RHEL8 and should be made availabel in RHEL7 as well:

  clutter: fix hole in ClutterPaintNode
  clutter: avoid g_signal_emit_by_name() from ClutterActor
  clutter: avoid redundant _clutter_paint_node_init_types()
