Description of problem:

There is command to install satellite 6 inventory plugin 

satellite-installer --enable-foreman-plugin-inventory-upload

I think this command should mention in recommended way of installing plugin.

Additional info:

Not sure, how it will impact satellite/inventory plugin if this command not run. Quite possible that puppet might not aware about configurations required for inventory plugin and those configurations may lost after satellite upgrade.

Please add additional clarification to your comments.

1. Do you know which version of the command your comments apply to? There is a version 6.6 and a version 6.5 of the command in the current information.
2. Is the command that you provided another step in the process to install, or does it replace the currently documented command?

Meanwhile, I will also see if I can find additional information from other contacts, but several are offline at the moment.

Hi Shim,

Thank you for the extra information. I'm not sure which version of Satellite the new "rh-cloud" instruction aligns to. I will guess on the side of the new command being available in 6.6 in my comments below. You say that @ehelms would be the best person to clarify how the commands match specific Satellite versions:

- Satellite 6.5: would this command be satellite-installer --enable-foreman-plugin-inventory-upload
- Satellite 6.6: would this command be satellite-installer --enable-foreman-plugin-rh-cloud
- Satellite 6.7 (and later): would this be the same as the 6.6 command?

Hi Jamie,

Let me clarify the process around shipping Satellite and plugin versions:
First: new plugin versions are shipped in the z-stream - meaning that if a new version of the plugin is available during the z-stream release, this version will be included.

Now, I maintain two parallel versions of the plugin for different Satellite version: Sat 6.5 and 6.6 will receive 0.9.? versions, while Sat 6.7 will receive 1.0.? version. Both versions will have the same features, if they have the same last number: i.e. 0.9.6 and 1.0.6 will have the same feature set, use 0.9.6 to install the plugin on Sat 6.5 or 6.6 and use 1.0.6 to install the same features on Sat 6.7.
The next version 0.9.6 will have installer support for foreman_rh_cloud naming.


Now @ehelms would be the person to say which z-stream version will contain those changes.
