Description Stephen M 2020-05-13 17:00:43 UTC
Description of problem:
The PHP manual provided by this RPM is old and does not match the version of PHP in Fedora.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
The RPM version is '20140725' and release is '9.fc31'.

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. $ sudo dnf install php-manual-en
2. Open this url in browser: file:///usr/share/doc/php-manual/en/html/index.html
3. Note the date at the top, after the list of authors

Actual results:
2013-02-22

Expected results:
Should be something close to what is on https://www.php.net/manual/en/index.php like 2020-05-12

Additional info:
PHP version in Fedora 31 is 7.3.17

Comment 1 Tim Jackson 2020-05-14 09:30:36 UTC
Yes. Originally this package was in place primarily to support gphpedit, which is now retired. I was intending to retire php-manual-en as well, but missed it.
If someone (perhaps you?) is interested in maintaining php-manual-en, they are welcome to take it, otherwise it's going to be retired.

Comment 2 Stephen M 2020-05-14 16:32:44 UTC
Sure, I can maintain it since I'm the one asking for it.

Related question: I noticed most documentation packages are named with a '-doc' suffix, like 'php-doc'. Is that something we should worry about?

Comment 3 Tim Jackson 2020-05-18 06:30:42 UTC
OK, if you give me your Fedora username I'll assign the package to you.

We had a discussion about the package naming on fedora-devel (or its equivalent back then) when I created the package (which was a very, very long time ago) and settled on this, but it may well be worth revisiting in light of current packaging guidelines and practices.

Comment 4 Stephen M 2020-05-18 17:32:46 UTC
My username is stephen144

I'll shoot a message about the package name to fedora-devel soon.

Thanks.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 33 development cycle.
Changing version to 33.
