Description akborder 2020-05-21 08:29:09 UTC
Description of problem:
Utilities like xwininfo and xprop allow the user to select a window to be
inspected by clicking the mouse inside the window area.

Such interactive selection is not working for either program.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-utils-7.5-34.fc32.x86_64

How reproducible: always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start xwininfo
2. the program outputs:
xwininfo: Please select the window about which you
would like information by clicking the
          mouse in that window.
3. click on any window on the desktop

Actual results:
Mouse clicks have no effect.

Expected results:
Mouse cursor should change into a crosshair. A single click should
select the corresponding window.

Are you using a Xorg or Wayland session? If the latter, xwininfo only work with windows from X11 apps, not native Wayland ones.

Comment 2 akborder 2020-05-23 08:20:10 UTC
You are right, I was trying to inspect a native Wayland window.

Thanks for the follow-up, closing as not a bug then.
