.Changes in `Python` RHEL 8.3 introduces the following changes to the `python38:3.8` module stream: * The `Python` interpreter has been updated to version 3.8.3, which provides several bug fixes. * The `python38-pip` package has been updated to version 19.3.1, and `pip` now supports installing `manylinux2014` wheels. Performance of the `Python 3.6` interpreter, provided by the `python3` packages, has been significantly improved. The `ubi8/python-27`, `ubi8/python-36`, and `ubi8/python-38` container images now support installing the `pipenv` utility from a custom package index or a PyPI mirror if provided by the customer. Previously, `pipenv` could only be downloaded from the upstream PyPI repository, and if the upstream repository was unavailable, the installation failed.

Description Tomas Orsava 2020-06-16 10:44:35 UTC
Python 3.8 was released in RHEL 8.2.

A lot of issues have now been addressed upstream with the initial version 3.8.0 that we've released and thus we'd like to update to the latest bugfix release Python 3.8.3.

The version has already been tested in Fedora and we believe it to be stable.

Comment 2 Miro Hrončok 2020-06-16 10:49:32 UTC
Fedora updated to 3.8.1, then 3.8.2 and 3.8.3. Both in Fedora 33/32 (where system components use Python 3.8, unlike RHEL 8) and Fedora 31. No problems were discovered, the update only fixed some bugs. (There was a regression discovered and fixed during 3.8.3rc1.)
