Description Enrique 2020-06-22 15:49:18 UTC
Description of problem:

iperf is currently not available in EPEL 8 repository. iperf is very useful tool to diagnose network performance issues between hosts.

Comment 1 Gabriel Somlo 2020-06-26 19:25:16 UTC
I tried (on my Fedora 32 machine) to run:

    mock -r rhlepel-8-x86_64 iperf-2.0.13-4.fc32.src.rpm

to see if the package would even build properly, before requesting a branch or anything fancy like that.

What I got was:

ERROR: /etc/pki/entitlment is not a directory, is subscription-manager installed?

I don't think I'll personally be able to help in this instance, so anyone with a valid rhel subscription wanting to be a co-maintainer should feel welcome to jump in...

Will you be able to branch and build iperf in epel8?
The EPEL Packagers SIG would be happy to be a co-maintainer
if you do not wish to build it on epel8.

I like to build locally to ensure things work, rather than have to bump revisions several times when koji builds fail. Since I can't build locally for epel8 (see comment #1 above), I'm perfectly OK with adding co-maintainer(s) who are equipped to do so. Let me know who to add to the iperf membership list at https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/iperf.

Actually, I just noticed, Steven Roberts (cc-ed) is the "main admin", so let's give him a chance to chime in before we do anything :)

Steven, any thoughts?

Comment 6 Davide Cavalca 2022-02-02 19:32:28 UTC
Sure thing. You should be able to do local builds for EPEL 8 using the almalinux-8-x86_64 chroot (as you've noticed, the rhepel one requires a valid subscription to work).

If you want to add the EPEL Packagers SIG as a co-maintainer add the epel-packagers-sig group through
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/<package>/addgroup
and grant it commit access, or collaborator access on epel* branches.

Thanks!

Wasn't aware of the `almalinux-*` chroot, and that it "fits" epel -- thanks for that! Seems to build the current iperf srpm without problems.

Once those go through, I'll request builds, and see how it goes from there.
