We're currently using 4.4, once hosts suport 4.5 compatibility version we should deploy new installations with Default cluster and SD as 4.5

Just an heads up that we released 4.4.4 and it support now CL 4.5.
You may consider to backport this to 4.4.4-1.

We somehow forgot about it, but it doesn't seem to me as a blocker for 4.4.4, so let's fix that in 4.4.5

Verified on:
ovirt-engine-4.4.5.2-0.1.el8ev.noarch

Steps:
1. deploy new engine
2. checl Default cluster ad datacenter compatibility version

Results:
default compatibility version after installation is 4.5

This bugzilla is included in oVirt 4.4.5 release, published on March 18th 2021.

Since the problem described in this bug report should be resolved in oVirt 4.4.5 release, it has been closed with a resolution of CURRENT RELEASE.
