Description Filipe Brandenburger 2021-01-05 21:36:54 UTC
Here's a request for inclusion of Python package "jupyterlab" and corresponding `jupyter-lab` command in Fedora.

Version 3.0.1 was just released and this package is now considered ready for users ("The current JupyterLab releases are suitable for general usage.")

https://pypi.org/project/jupyterlab/

https://jupyter.org/install.html

Wondering if this should be bundled together with jupyter-core or if it should be its own separate `python3-jupyterlab` package.

(I'd be happy to help create and/or maintain such a package in Fedora, if you would like to have some help with that.)

Thanks!
Filipe

Separate. See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1547500

Cool! How do I help you?

I'll try to work on this one.

I'm starting with bug 1914450 to package python-jupyter-packaging, which is used in setup.py of recent jupyterlab releases.

It seems getting the tests right on jupyterlab might be an issue, but I'll see how far I can get on that one.

Having a review for the python-jupyter-packaging would be helpful, also since I'm planning to use a similar/same spec file template on jupyterlab later on. (I haven't packaged Python before, so any further tip that might would be really appreciated.)

BTW, feel free to assign this back to myself if you'd like.

Cheers!
Filipe

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 34 development cycle.
Changing version to 34.

Comment 4 Ben Cotton 2022-05-12 15:13:15 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '34'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 5 Ben Cotton 2022-06-07 21:10:23 UTC
Fedora Linux 34 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2022-06-07.

Fedora Linux 34 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
