Description Need Real Name 2000-10-16 18:06:15 UTC
In the process of debugging the periodic loss of my mouse (it flies to the
upper right hand corner after i've been running X for a while, and I have
to restart X to get it back <it's an Intellimouse plugged into the onboard
PS2 slot, and i'm using the IMPS/2 option in XF86Config>) , i realized that
i'm still running an old X server.

When I run startx it says it's still running the 3.3.6 server. and using
the SVGA-server.
I upgraded to RH7.0 only because i'm too lazy to build X 4.0.1 on my own,
and i was hoping that would fix my mouse issues. So far, only more
problems.

(pseudo) relevant stuff:
Some sort of Dell PIII, with
Nvidia Riva TNT2 Ultra Vanta (mega deluxe super bob!)
PS/2 connected intellimouse
this was an upgrade from 6.2 to 7.0

This is not a bug. Change the soft link in /etc/X11/X to point at
/usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 instead of /usr/X11/bin/XF86_<something>.
After you do this, the config file you have to update is /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.
XConfigurator populates both the XF86Config, and XF86Config-4 files no matter
with X you happen to be running.
Also, if you have an Intellimouse and have a USB port, connect the mouse to that
port and run mouseconfig to use a generic 3 button USB mouse. The scroll wheel
even works under XFree86 4.0.1 then. I've also had problems with my
Intellimouse Explorer acting weird and locking things up when I had it connected
to my PS/2 port.

We pick the X server we think is best for the job. You can tell Xconfigurator
you want 4.0 if
you check the man page
