It may be possible to make Wireshark consume excessive CPU resources by injecting a malformed packet onto the wire or by convincing someone to read a malformed packet trace file.

Statement:

Wireshark as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, and 8 is not affected by this flaw as the vulnerable code was introduced in a newer version of Wireshark.

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
