Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description of problem:
Login cockpit, click to enter the page of a NIC, click the "ON/OFF" button(the switch-toggle), the up state can be switched to the inactive state, but the inactive state cannot be switched to up.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
rhvh-4.4.6.1-0.20210402.0
cockpit-bridge-238.2-1.el8.x86_64
subscription-manager-cockpit-1.28.13-2.el8.noarch
cockpit-ovirt-dashboard-0.14.20-1.el8ev.noarch
cockpit-storaged-238.2-1.el8.noarch
cockpit-238.2-1.el8.x86_64
cockpit-ws-238.2-1.el8.x86_64
cockpit-system-238.2-1.el8.noarch
How reproducible:
100%
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install redhat-virtualization-host-4.4.6-20210402.2.el8_4.x86_64
2. Login cockpit in firefox browser
3. Go to "Networking" -> "Interfaces"
4. Click a NIC to enter its configuration page
5. Click the "ON/OFF" button(the switch-toggle)
Actual results:
If the NIC is up, it can be switched to the inactive state, and then it cannot be switched back to the up state.
Expected results:
NIC in inactive state can be switched to up state.
Additional info:
Since there is no new RHVH build based on rhel8.5 and cockpit-242-1.el8, QE tried to verify this bug by manually installing cockpit-242-1.el8.x86_64.rpm on rhvh-4.4.6.1-0.20210505.0+1
But this bug can still be reproduced.
Test steps:
1. Install redhat-virtualization-host-4.4.6-20210505.0.el8_4
2. Download cockpit-242-1.el8.x86_64.rpm and install
# rpm -Uvh cockpit-242-1.el8.x86_64.rpm
3. Reboot rhvh
4. Login to cockpit and check the "ON/OFF" button(the switch-toggle)
Test results:
NIC in inactive state can not be switched to up by clicking the "ON/OFF" button.
peyu: You'll need cockpit-system RPM to test this; cockpit.rpm is just a metapackage, updating only that one will change nothing.
@Sandro: Technically principle yes, we just usually do this for high-profile bugs only. This is a BaseOS package, so there are no AppStream releases (8.4.1), and this this isn't the kind of data loss/security bug that easily gets a z-stream (8.4.0.z) approval.
