Description jseger9000@comcast.net 2021-06-06 17:04:59 UTC
Description of problem: On my Linux laptop, the Firefox home page keeps resetting to start.fedoraproject.org. I've repeatedly set it to the default Firefox Home page in Preferences/Home and then, a few hours later (opening and closing Firefox several times) it is reset to the Fedora page.

Fedora seems to have a daily system update requiring a restart. But today even though I have downloaded the update, I haven't restarted/installed it. But even so, Firefox has reset my home page.

I don't have this problem when using Firefox on my Surface, desktop or work laptop (all Windows 10) or my phone (Android). All retain their selected home page. I am signed in and synched on all my computers.

This is Fedora 34, Gnome 40

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 88.0.1

Can you try to create a new clean profile [1]? Also look at about:config if you see anything related to your homepage.

Comment 2 Martin Stransky 2021-06-08 07:55:28 UTC
I see you use the sync - that may be the problem here.

Comment 3 jseger9000@comcast.net 2021-06-11 01:34:37 UTC
Today Fedora just reset my Firefox home page again. I searched about:config for "start.fedoraproject.org". Nothing found.

I'm going to reset my home page and change distribution.fedora.bookmarksProcessed to false.

I don't think sync is the issue. I use the same Firefox profile on three Windows 10 PCs, an Android phone and my one Fedora laptop. The only place I see the home page issue is on the Fedora laptop. If I start Firefox on my Surface, the home page is never start.fedoraproject.org.

I wanted to add my +1 as I've seen this issue for over a year now. I also use Firefox sync with all options turned on except for addresses. I'll turn off settings sync and report back if I see the issue.

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '34'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 6 Ben Cotton 2022-06-07 21:50:01 UTC
Fedora Linux 34 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2022-06-07.

Fedora Linux 34 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
