Description Javier Cano 2006-06-28 00:42:45 UTC
Description of problem:
I can not configure the sound card on my Imac G5 Mac. It is a 1.8 GHz computer,
it is the first version of this model. However, it seems the card is detected...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
system-config-soundcard-1.2.16-2

How reproducible:
Just try the command system-config-soundcard. It does not configure the soundcard.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
system-config-soundcard

2. The command opens the sound card configuration window with this output (there
is no PCM device!)
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
cat: /proc/asound/version: No such file or directory
cat: /proc/asound/modules: No such file or directory
cat: /proc/asound/pcm: No such file or directory

3.
Try to play the test from the window.

Actual results:
No sound is played. The test fails.

Expected results:
Sounds! (please) ;)

Could you please check "#modprobe snd-powermac"? Are there any errors in dmesg?

Comment 3 Javier Cano 2006-06-30 10:30:28 UTC
Hi!

I did "/sbin/modprobe snd-powermac" and the following line is written (dmesg):
"snd:Can't request rsrc 0 (Sound Control: 0x80000000:80004fff)"

PS: thanks for your so fast answer!

Please check this how-to (http://people.redhat.com/stransky/alsa/ - check new
drivers) and/or report this bug to alsa project (www.alsa-project.org), they're
authors of ALSA sound system.
