Ever since June 28, shortly after I updated some software on my laptop, I've
often been unable to suspend it.  /var/log/messages sometimes reports that one
task failed to stop:

But often it reports that 11 failed (it seems to be the same 11 every time):

I think I also installed kernel 2.6.17-1.2139_FC5 shortly before the problem
cropped up, although I've since uninstalled it, so I don't have a record of its
install date.  I'm currently running 2.6.17-1.2145_FC5.  Before the problems
started, I was running 2.6.16-1.2133_FC5.

Once, when hald-addon-stor was the only task that wouldn't stop, I tried to kill
it manually, first nicely and then aggressively (kill -9), but it turned out to
be in the "uninterruptable sleep" state, owned by the init process, according to
ps, and thus unstoppable.

I've also tried letting nonsleeping dogs lie for a day or so, but once it stops
being able to suspend, it never regains that ability until I reboot.  It usually
takes a couple days to get into the state, although I've seen it happen within a
day.

I note bug 197404, bug 197675, and bug 197944 (all dupes?), but they're all
FC6/devel, while my issue is on FC5.  But perhaps it's the same problem, and it
just manifests differently on FC5.

A new kernel update has been released (Version: 2.6.18-1.2200.fc5)
based upon a new upstream kernel release.

Please retest against this new kernel, as a large number of patches
go into each upstream release, possibly including changes that
may address this problem.

This bug has been placed in NEEDINFO state.
Due to the large volume of inactive bugs in bugzilla, if this bug is
still in this state in two weeks time, it will be closed.

Should this bug still be relevant after this period, the reporter
can reopen the bug at any time. Any other users on the Cc: list

In the last few updates, some users upgrading from FC4->FC5
have reported that installing a kernel update has left their
systems unbootable. If you have been affected by this problem
please check you only have one version of device-mapper & lvm2

As indicated previously there has been no update on the progress of this bug
therefore I am closing it as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Please re-open if the issue
