Description Kenny Tordeurs 2021-08-18 12:48:14 UTC
Description of problem:
Tuning profile 'default' requires at least 8 GB of memory and 1 CPU cores

Conflicts with documentation

4-core 2.0 GHz CPU at a minimum
A minimum of 12 GB RAM is required for Capsule Server to function. In addition, a minimum of 4 GB RAM of swap space is also recommended. Capsule running with less RAM than the minimum value might not operate correctly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
satellite-capsule-6.10.0-0.6.beta.el7sat.noarch

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Assign < 12GB of RAM
2. run installer
3.

Actual results:
Tuning profile 'default' requires at least 8 GB of memory and 1 CPU cores

Expected results:
Output message should state the same requirements as documentation

Comment 2 Griffin Sullivan 2023-01-11 18:26:09 UTC
Verified in 6.13

Insufficient memory or CPU requirement when using default tuning profile throws correct error message.

Steps to Reproduce:

1) Get a RHEL8 machine with <20GB of memory and <4 CPUs.

2) Try to install satellite

Results:

WITH 2G OF MEMORY AND 1 CPU:
# satellite-installer --scenario satellite
2023-01-11 13:03:14 [NOTICE] [root] Loading installer configuration. This will take some time.
2023-01-11 13:03:20 [NOTICE] [root] Running installer with log based terminal output at level NOTICE.
2023-01-11 13:03:20 [NOTICE] [root] Use -l to set the terminal output log level to ERROR, WARN, NOTICE, INFO, or DEBUG. See --full-help for definitions.
Insufficient memory for tuning size
Tuning profile 'default' requires at least 20 GB of memory and 4 CPU cores

WITH 21G OF MEMORY AND 1 CPU:
# satellite-installer --scenario satellite
2023-01-11 13:14:13 [NOTICE] [root] Loading installer configuration. This will take some time.
2023-01-11 13:14:20 [NOTICE] [root] Running installer with log based terminal output at level NOTICE.
2023-01-11 13:14:20 [NOTICE] [root] Use -l to set the terminal output log level to ERROR, WARN, NOTICE, INFO, or DEBUG. See --full-help for definitions.
Insufficient CPU cores for tuning size
Tuning profile 'default' requires at least 20 GB of memory and 4 CPU cores

WITH 2G OF MEMORY AND 4 CPUs:
# satellite-installer --scenario satellite
2023-01-11 13:08:19 [NOTICE] [root] Loading installer configuration. This will take some time.
2023-01-11 13:08:25 [NOTICE] [root] Running installer with log based terminal output at level NOTICE.
2023-01-11 13:08:25 [NOTICE] [root] Use -l to set the terminal output log level to ERROR, WARN, NOTICE, INFO, or DEBUG. See --full-help for definitions.
Insufficient memory for tuning size
Tuning profile 'default' requires at least 20 GB of memory and 4 CPU cores

Installer works when both requirements are met.

Comment 3 Griffin Sullivan 2023-01-26 18:03:57 UTC
Switching to ON_QA till automation is complete.

Comment 4 Griffin Sullivan 2023-02-21 21:18:36 UTC
I was told we can switch this to verified instead and track automation in Jira.
