Description Thomas Hutterer 2006-07-31 17:58:45 EDT
Description of problem:
Starting i386 guest on FC5 x86_64 results in:

Using config file "/etc/xen/cms2".
Going to boot Fedora Core (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU)
  kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU
  initrd: /boot/initrd-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU.img
Error: (9, 'Bad file descriptor')

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
host:
kernel-xen0-2157 x86_64
xen-3.0.2-3 x86_64

guest:
kernel-xenU-2157 i386

How reproducible:
I have installed a i386 guest with FC5 i386. I have updated the guest to
kernel-xenU-2.6.17-2157. Running this guest in FC5 i386 is no problem.

After that, I have installed FC5 x86_64 on another host an updated the host to
kernel-xen0-2.6.17-2157.

If I try to start the i386 guest I get following error:
Using config file "/etc/xen/cms2".
Going to boot Fedora Core (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU)
  kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU
  initrd: /boot/initrd-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU.img
Error: (9, 'Bad file descriptor')

/var/log/xend-debug.log:
ERROR: Kernel not a Xen-compatible Elf image.
ERROR: Error constructing guest OS

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install FC5 i386 host and update to kernel-xen0-2157
2. install FC5 i386 guest and update to kernel-xenU-2157
3. install FC5 x86_64 host and update to kerenl-xen0-2157
4. try to start guest created under 2.

Actual results:
Using config file "/etc/xen/cms2".
Going to boot Fedora Core (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU)
  kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU
  initrd: /boot/initrd-2.6.17-1.2157_FC5xenU.img
Error: (9, 'Bad file descriptor')

/var/log/xend-debug.log:
ERROR: Kernel not a Xen-compatible Elf image.
ERROR: Error constructing guest OS

Expected results:
regular start of guest OS

Xen doesn't support 32bit paravirt guests on 64bit hosts.
