Description cody6730 2021-10-08 15:10:50 UTC
Description of problem:
For several months now, I have been unable to update system firmware using fwupdmgr. Based on this upstream page and associated bug reports
https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/wiki/LVFS-Triaged-Issue:-Failed-to-run-update-on-reboot
it sounds as though the cause may actually be a bug in shim. From what I can tell, the necessary patches have been made to shim, but these have not yet been pulled in to Fedora.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
shim-x64-15.4-4.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always, at least on a Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen2 X1 Extreme 2nd Edition.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run fwupdmgr update
2. Reboot when prompted
3. Check that the update was applied (you can run fwupdmgr again)

Actual results:
Update is not applied

Expected results:
Update is applied
