Description of problem:

With the release of NVIDIA proprietary driver series 495, the NVIDIA driver now supports GBM buffers, but mutter prefers EGLStream with NVIDIA proprietary driver.

Thsi is a request o backport the reuired chnages in mutter to use GBM with NVIDIA proprietary driver if it supports GBM (i.e. version 495 or above):

I haven't looked how intrusive such a backport would be, this bug is to have us consider the change and make an educated decision based on feasibility.

FTR, I backported the patches and filed https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms/mutter/-/merge_requests/18 if that helps.

Also please note this requires https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms/mesa/-/merge_requests/8 in Mesa or mutter won't be able to start with GBM and NVIDIA proprietary driver.

with mutter-40.9-7.el9. and egl-wayland-1.1.9-2.el9 nvidia driver is using GBM backend.
