Description Ulrich Drepper 2021-10-22 11:09:52 UTC
Description of problem:
The pkg-config files in mosquitto-devel for (probably) all 64-bit systems is wrong. It likely stems from using the versions for Debian.

The files contain

prefix=/usr
[…]
libdir=${exec_prefix}/lib
[…]
Libs: -L${libdir} -lmosquitto

etc. This results on -L/usr/lib on the command line which on x86-64 and likely other 64-bit systems for Fedora in messages like

/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libm.so when searching for -lm
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libc.so when searching for -lc

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.0.12-1.fc34

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.install mosquitto-devel
2.link anything with $(pkg-config --libs libmosquitto) added to the link line
3.the same happens for $(pkg-config --libs libmosquittopp)

Actual results:
the above messages

Expected results:
no such message

Additional info:
Alternative to using lib64 in these place, just drop the -L parameter if ${prefix} is /usr.

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '34'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 2 Peter Robinson 2022-08-17 07:57:00 UTC
Probably needs to be fixed upstream

Comment 3 Ulrich Drepper 2023-01-26 11:46:38 UTC
(In reply to Peter Robinson from comment #2)
> Probably needs to be fixed upstream

I don't think it'll be fixed upstream because for Debian this is the right value. Most likely that's what the developers support.

The change is a customization necessary for Fedora and other distribution that use lib/lib64 instead of lib32/lib.

Please fix this. And yes, still a problem in F37.
