Can confirm this bug. Set up proxy variables in /etc/profile.d and in saved the proxy URL in /etc/dnf/vars/proxy but dnf-automatic ignores all of that.

PR https://github.com/rpm-software-management/dnf/pull/1919 fixes the issue.
