Description Tomáš Hrnčiar 2021-12-20 07:23:18 UTC
kicad fails to build with Python 3.11.0a3.

CMake Error at /usr/share/cmake/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:230 (message):
Could NOT find PythonLibs (missing: PYTHON_INCLUDE_DIRS) (Required is at
  least version "3.6")
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/share/cmake/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:594 (_FPHSA_FAILURE_MESSAGE)
  CMakeModules/FindPythonLibs.cmake:261 (find_package_handle_standard_args)
  CMakeLists.txt:817 (find_package)

This should be fixed by backporting my upstream PR in CMake.

For the build logs, see:

For all our attempts to build kicad with Python 3.11, see:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.11/package/kicad/

Testing and mass rebuild of packages is happening in copr. You can follow these instructions to test locally in mock if your package builds with Python 3.11:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.11/

Let us know here if you have any questions.

Python 3.11 is planned to be included in Fedora 37. To make that update smoother, we're building Fedora packages with all pre-releases of Python 3.11.
A build failure prevents us from testing all dependent packages (transitive [Build]Requires), so if this package is required a lot, it's important for us to get it fixed soon.
We'd appreciate help from the people who know this package best, but if you don't want to work on this now, let us know so we can try to work around it on our side.

I have submitted an MR to KiCad to add support for Python 3.11 here: https://gitlab.com/kicad/code/kicad/-/merge_requests/1060

This will go into KiCad 6.0.1 soon after KiCad 6.0.0 is released. Should be in plenty of time for Fedora 37.

Comment 2 Steven A. Falco 2022-01-28 19:32:55 UTC
Python 3.11 support is now available in the KiCad repo.
