Description Alberto Mimbrero 2022-02-05 11:39:08 UTC
Description of problem:
It isn't possible to open Java applications distributed as .jar by double clicking them. Some distributions provide .desktops in the OpenJDK packages to allow this. This is is an extremely useful feature for newcomers to Fedora. Also, Fedora is becoming more and more user-friendly, and telling people to open a terminal in the file's specific directory and run the java command isn't very comfortable to them.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
All supported OpenJDK versions

How reproducible:
Find a .jar, double click it or try to open it with OpenJDK visually.

Actual results:
There's no application to execute .jar files.

Expected results:
There should be a desktop entry to execute .jar files.

Hello?

This issue was created to a wrong product, reassigning to Fedora product. It might likely be something for one of the gnome components, but I don't have a clue which one and maybe java experts might help describing what is the expected behavior.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 37 development cycle.
Changing version to 37.
