$ git review
Errors running git rebase -p -i remotes/gerrit/master
fatal: --preserve-merges was replaced by --rebase-merges
It is likely that your change has a merge conflict. You may resolve it
in the working tree now as described above and then run 'git review'
again, or if you do not want to resolve it yet (note that the change
can not merge until the conflict is resolved) you may run 'git rebase
--abort' then 'git review -R' to upload the change without rebasing.

See https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/73058 for an explanation. Needs updating to include https://opendev.org/opendev/git-review/commit/7182166ec00ad3645821435d72c5424b4629165f.

--- Additional comment from Dmitry Tantsur on 2022-01-11 10:07:25 UTC ---

Note that git-review 2.2.0 actually includes the fix. 1.28.0 is from 2019, so an update is overdue.

Indeed, we're behind with packaging of 2.2.0. Worse, the whole shebang needs to be fast-tracked for the benefits of CentOS etc.

Hi Dmitry Tantsur,

I had the same issue, a temporary fix is to downgrade your git version.

--- Additional comment from Fedora Update System on 2022-02-11 16:12:54 UTC ---

--- Additional comment from Fedora Update System on 2022-02-19 01:31:42 UTC ---

FEDORA-2022-d807d9cd76 has been pushed to the Fedora 35 stable repository.
If problem still persists, please make note of it in this bug report.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The bug is also present on Fedora 34 where git-review 1.28 is the most recent release available[0].

Would it be possible to either make the 2.20 version available on F34 or to backport the necessary fixes to make it compatible with more recent versions of git?

Comment 1 Ben Cotton 2022-05-12 16:48:00 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '34'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 2 Ben Cotton 2022-06-08 01:13:46 UTC
Fedora Linux 34 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2022-06-07.

Fedora Linux 34 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
