Description Miro Hrončok 2022-04-20 10:36:58 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhroncok).

Your package (swift-lang) Fails To Install in Fedora 37:

can't install swift-lang:
  - nothing provides ncurses-compat-libs needed by swift-lang-5.6.1-1.fc37.x86_64

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-37-x86_64 --disablerepo='*' --enablerepo=local install swift-lang

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

ncurses-compat-libs was dropped in https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/ncurses/c/e9317e9d5d60bbafccec65f4181e05425db1a13b?branch=rawhide

Comment 2 Miroslav Lichvar 2022-04-20 11:51:54 UTC
I'm sorry for the trouble.

It seems the dependency was added in 2018. Is it still needed?

Comment 3 Ron Olson 2022-04-20 16:11:22 UTC
It was a requirement, I can't find the original page that indicated that. Is there an alternative that should be considered; I suppose ncurses-devel is, theoretically, all I need?

Comment 4 Miroslav Lichvar 2022-04-21 06:49:39 UTC
ncurses-libs contains the current version 6 of ncurses, while ncurses-compat-libs had the previous version.

Comment 5 Ron Olson 2022-04-22 19:03:14 UTC
Does this take care of it: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2022-3680424730

Comment 6 Miroslav Lichvar 2022-04-25 07:00:38 UTC
It does, thanks. This is a F37+ only change , fixing this in F36 is not necessary.

Hopefully, whatever thing originally needed the ncurses-compat-libs dependency was rebuilt with ncurses 6.

Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhroncok).

All subpackages of a package against which this bug was filled are now installable or removed from Fedora 37.

Thanks for taking care of it!
