In Eclipse Openj9 before version 0.32.0, Java 8 & 11 fail to throw the exception captured during bytecode verification when verification is triggered by a MethodHandle invocation, allowing unverified methods to be invoked using MethodHandles.

IBM Security Update May 2022 (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/java-sdk-security-vulnerabilities#IBM_Security_Update_May_2022) states that this issue was fixed in IBM JDK 8.0.7.10. The java-1.8.0-ibm packages as shipped with Red Hat products were previously updated to a version that contains the fix via the following errata:
