Description Dwight Schauer 2022-05-31 12:31:39 UTC
Some of arch-install-script components are useful for bootstrapping Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and RHEL clones. They are not exclusive to bootstrapping the Arch Linux distribution.

Please branch and build arch-install-scripts for EPEL8 and EPEL 9 for x86_64 and aarch64

Comment 1 Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2022-05-31 12:59:28 UTC
Are you sure? This package provides /usr/bin/arch-chroot, /usr/bin/genfstab, /usr/bin/pacstrap.
I don't think those are useful for anything except arch.

Comment 2 Dwight Schauer 2022-05-31 14:04:30 UTC
I use arch-chroot and genfstab reguarly in the bootstrapping of Fedora, Ubuntu, and Almalinux 8 and 9, for both physical machine installs and VM installs.

Obviously I don't used pacstrap for either of these.

arch-chroot and genfstab are very useful for any distro.

Basically a scripted install (arch-linux style install) using one of these as the base image: https://us.lxd.images.canonical.com/images/

(or using rpm/dnf on Fedora or Almalinux to create the base directory).

Comment 3 Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2022-05-31 14:40:03 UTC
I didn't know this even though I packaged this for Fedora, thanks for letting me know ;)

Unfortunately I don't have any free time to work on EPEL. If you (or somebody else)
wants to pick up maintenance of the package in EPEL, I'd be happy to give appropriate rights.

Comment 4 Dwight Schauer 2022-05-31 14:54:38 UTC
Yes, I am interested in picking up maintenance for arch-install-scripts for EPEL. (For 8 and 9 and ongoing, not really interested in making it work for for EPEL 7 or older).

I'll need to come up to speed on this, as I've never maintained a Fedora or EPEL package.

Comment 5 Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2022-07-22 12:22:31 UTC
I cannot commit to doing this myself, but I added acl: epel-packagers-sig (commit) so it's easier for somebody else to pick up.

Dwight: if you are not in the packager group, you'd need to become one first. Unfortunately
I can't help with that right now, too many things on my plate.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 37 development cycle.
Changing version to 37.
